UltraWave

Microwave Intrusion Detection Sensor

Annotation 2020-07-30 110047.jpg

UltraWave is a volumetric, fully digital, bi-static microwave sensor that generates an invisible field of energy between a transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx). When an intruder enters the field, an alarm is generated. UltraWave is ideal for providing perimeter security as well as protecting gates and sally ports.

How It Works

The transmitter generates an invisible pattern of microwave energy aimed towards the receiver. Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms distinguish background environmental effects from the unique signatures of intruders walking, running, or crawling.

Detection Capabilities

  • Zone lengths from 5 to 200 m (16 to 656 ft)

  • Stackable for increased detection zone height

  • Reliable detection in all weather conditions, including rain, fog and snow.

Performance Features

  • Reduces nuisance alarms by distinguishing valid targets from environment effects

  • Stable operation over temperature changes and equipment aging

  • Automatic Gain Control compensates for varying path loss due to Tx-Rx separation and weather conditions

Flexible Deployment Options

  • Provide intrusion detection around an entire perimeter

  • Gap-fill areas where another system acts as the main sensor

  • Configurable frequency channels enable multiple units to operate in close proximity to each other, including applications where multiple units are stacked together

Flexible Deployment Options

UltraWave provides a cost-effective means to protect areas of varying sizes, including gates, sally ports, and fenced/non-fenced perimeters. Configurable frequencies enable the overlapping of detection zones to eliminate coverage gaps while the flexible coverage distance (5 to 200 m or 16 to 656 ft) makes it suitable for use in protecting both closed-in and open areas.

Anti-Spoofing

To protect against deliberate spoofing or accidental misalignment, UltraWave receiver units only recognize their paired transmitter unit. Signal loss or jamming attempts are also reported immediately to the site’s security system.

Common Platform

UltraWave uses the same configuration and integration software as other Senstar products, reducing training requirements while increasing operational efficiencies. The device is configured and calibrated with easy-to-use Windows®-based software over a USB or network connection. Alarms, control, and status information is managed by the Network Manager software, which provides a common unified interface for Senstar’s video and security management software as well as other industry-leading third-party systems.

Reduced Infrastructure Requirements

Field wiring is minimized as the Tx-Rx pair communicate with each other via modulation of the microwave signals, with the Rx unit communicating alarm and status information to the site’s security system. If networked, UltraWave can share communications infrastructure with other Senstar sensors. The units themselves support PoE and consume less than 5W.

Networking and Integration

With on-board relay outputs, auxiliary inputs, and support for Ethernet, RS-422 and fiber optic communication cards, UltraWave can work with virtually any security system.

Networking and Integration

With on-board relay outputs, auxiliary inputs, and support for Ethernet, RS-422 and fiber optic communication cards, FlexZone can work with virtually any security system.

Gate Protection

FlexZone sensor cable can be installed on swinging gates to provide detection, and the gate area itself can be configured as an independent detection zone. Gate latches can be monitored via FlexZone’s onboard auxiliary input. Sliding gates are typically protected with Senstar’s Wireless Gate Sensor or UltraWave microwave sensor.

Deployment Diagram

UltraWave pairs can be deployed individually or stacked together to increase the height of the detection zone. In addition, configurable operating frequencies enable overlapping of zones to eliminate coverage gaps. UltraWave typically communicates with the security system via Ethernet, RS-422 or fiber optic interfaces. The communications network may be shared with other Senstar sensors to reduce infrastructure requirements. Integrations using output relays are also supported.
