 FP1150 for Pipeline TPI

Point-locating Buried Fiber Optic Sensor for Pipeline TPI Detection

Annotation 2020-07-29 141555.jpg

The FP1150 is designed specifically to detect third-party interference (TPI) activities that threaten pipelines: machine or manual digging, heavy machinery operating in the nearby vicinity–even people walking within the protected area if so configured.

How It Works

FiberPatrol works by transmitting pulses of laser light into a single-mode optical fiber and accurately measuring the minute light reflections that occur along its length. A disturbance of the fiber caused by ground vibrations changes the amount of light returned from that point. FiberPatrol’s reflectometry-based technology does not require the light to traverse the full length of cable. If a cable is cut, FiberPatrol retains the ability to detect and locate intrusions up to the point of the cut, thus enabling the system to support cut-immune configurations.

FiberPatrol FP150 for Pipeline TPI Features

Pipeline Protection

FP1150 provides advanced third-party interference (TPI) detection. The system detects a wide variety of TPI types, including machine or manual digging, heavy machinery operating nearby, and people walking in the vicinity of the pipeline. Pipeline operators can use this data to quickly response to the security risk and avoid potential damage.

Fence and Wall Protection

Segments of the FP1150 sensor cable may be routed above-ground for installation on fences, swinging gates, and walls as required for comprehensive perimeter protection.

Sensor Cables

The FP1150 uses single-mode fiber within telecommunications-grade cable. The sensing function requires either one fiber depending – additional fibers within the cable can be used for other communications purposes like Ethernet and/or communication with other Senstar sensors.

Detection and Ranging of Simultaneous Intrusions

The FP1150 accurately locates intrusions even when there are multiple simultaneous intrusions or in the presence of non-localized environmental noise. Alarms may be reported by zone number, cable distance and/or GPS coordinates.

Continued Detection and Ranging After Cable Cut

If the sensor cable is cut, the FP1150 immediately reports the incident and its location. Moreover, the sensor retains the ability to detect and locate intrusions right up to the point of the cut.

Digging and Tunneling Detection

The FP1150 detects hand and machine digging and tunneling at distances of up to 20 m (66 ft) from the sensor cable in any direction. Activities inside an existing tunnel such as movement of people, equipment, and vehicles can also be detected.

Common Platform

The FP1150 uses the same integration software as other Senstar products, reducing training requirements while increasing operational efficiencies. Alarms, control, and status information is managed by the Network Manager software, which provides a common unified interface for Senstar’s video and security management software as well as other industry-leading third-party systems.
